Future Moves, the project that introduces groups of young people to dance within the spaces of the Vicenza Museums – inviting them to dance in dialogue with the artworks and the imaginative worlds of the artistic heritage – celebrates International Dance Day on April 29th with a full day of activities open to everyone, titled The Museum in Motion – International Dance Day at Palazzo Chiericati in Vicenza.
Created to support the well-being of adolescents, particularly those experiencing psychological vulnerability, Future Moves highlights the generative and transformative power of dance, activating individual and collective soft skills, improving psychophysical health, and offering tools to navigate the complexities of growing up. It transforms young people’s relationship with the museum and broadens definitions of beauty and excellence.
Councillor for Culture for the Municipality of Vicenza, Ilaria Fantin, explains:
“The practice of dance has a significant impact on young people’s ability to face the challenges linked to growing up, and offering girls and boys a space for expression and relief within the museum’s heritage is a unique opportunity. Future Moves has already delivered 30 dance classes, involving adolescents from Vicenza, Altavilla Vicentina, Altissimo, Arzignano, Bassano del Grappa and many other nearby communities. It is a structured and well‑designed programme which, thanks to the support of local organisations and institutions, demonstrates how cultural heritage can be connected with personal care. We are delighted to celebrate International Dance Day with Future Moves.”
The programme of the day includes, in the morning, dance practices for two lower‑secondary school classes in collaboration with Scatola Cultura, activating the moving body through images and imaginaries inspired by the works housed in the museum.
In the afternoon, from 3 pm to 6 pm, a series of free activities open to all. These range from a choreographic itinerary created by Marigia Maggipinto, former dancer of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, for a group of Future Movers in collaboration with Zebra Cultural Zoo (as part of the “Per Chi Crea” programme, supported by MiC and SIAE), to guided visits of Palazzo Chiericati featuring additional choreographic itineraries curated by the young Future Movers, and dance sessions for primary‑school children in collaboration with Scatola Cultura (from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm).
Finally, also from 3 pm to 6 pm, participants may join dance practices for adults, for people living with Parkinson’s, and for people living with and beyond cancer—in collaboration with I Dance the Way I Feel and Amici del 5° Piano.
In preparation for the event that will bring the museum to celebrate International Dance Day, on 27 April the museum staff will take part in a dedicated dance programme with the artists and team of e20danza.
Future Moves is an initiative promoted by the Municipality and Museums of Vicenza and carried out by the Cultural Association e20danza in collaboration with ULSS8 Berica, Rete Nolimita‑c‑tions, Casa di Cultura Popolare and Palazzo del Monte SRL, with the support of Fondazione Cariverona, Fondazione Giuseppe Roi di Vicenza and Fondazione Monte di Pietà, and for this occasion in collaboration with Scatola Cultura.
A unique opportunity to rediscover the museum and its artworks through the moving body.
Participation in the entire day is free of charge. For bookings and information, please write to futuremoves@e20danza.art.
